Baffles (Soffit Ventilation)

Baffles- Are installed at the soffit to provide air flow from outside vents to the ridge vent. This will maintain a ventilated roof deck. It is crucial to seal the top plate when installing baffles. A common issue we see in attics is when baffles have been installed incorrectly. In order for a baffle to properly function it must be secured to the roof deck and its bottom folded in and sealed to prevent outside air from :wind-washing” the insulation.

A correctly installed baffle has been sealed at the top plate and directs air flow to the ridge vent.
