Cellulose Dense Pack

Fascia board on SoffitThis homeowner in Baldwinsville, NY was having serious ice dams off his roof with a sloped ceiling. CNY Green Energy Solutions with the customer decided that dense packing the roof cavity with cellulose insulation would be the most effective and least intrusive method of properly insulating.

In order to access the roof cavity CNY Green Energy Solutions had to remove the existing gutter and soffit. The alternative to accessing the needed area would have been more intrusive by going through the sheet rocked ceiling and then having to patch and re install new.  Once the soffit was removed, we found cavities that had minimal fiberglass batts that weren’t doing any good since they had several voids. Baffles had been improperly installed as well. Since there was no soffit venting air couldn’t get in anyway and if it did it would have no where to travel since this roof deck met with another roof.

Install of Cellulose By using a 10′ pvc pipe we were able to ensure the cellulose reached the full cavity. It is critical that the bays are tightly packed and do not allow any air leakage or voids

Dense Packed Cellulose

Dense Packed CelluloseThis bay has been dense packed with cellulose. In order to get the last bit in, we use blocking to feed the hose through and ensure that the bay is fully packed
